Worth a second look: JCPenney
When I think of cute clothes, I usually think of stores like Anthropologie (of course), J.Crew, Banana Republic…places that I consider on the expensive side. They just look nicer to me. But, I think a lot of my opinion is successful marketing from those companies. If you take 20 minutes to browse on JCPenney’s website, I think you’ll find quite a few things that you really like, and for a great deal. When shopping at places like JCPenney, places that aren’t as fancy/chic/expensive/whatever the word is, I always try to ask myself:
“If I saw this exact item at Nordstrom, would I love it?”
When I take the JCPenney-ness out of it, sometimes I find myself loving something that I wouldn’t have if I had focused on where it came from. Am I the only one that does this? JCPenney has a lot of cheesy/tacky/mom jeans kind of clothes, but they also have cute clothes. I like cute clothes, and I also like a good deal, so it’s worth wading through the frumpy clothes to find the really cute things. Here are some pretty dresses to check out, all for a great deal:

black wrap dress, pink dress with ruffled neckline, plus-size wrap dress, floral top dress, gray dress with pockets (I LOVE this dress! It would be so fun to accessorize.), flutter sleeve dress with belt, plus-size pink ruched dress

JC Penney has some great stuff! From statement necklaces, ruffled cardis to knit blazers, I have been very impressed lately.
And right now they have some great coupon codes.
Take $10 off your purchase of $10+ | code: DADROCKS
Or take 40% off all full-priced items and 10% off all sale-priced items | code: 40SUMMER
I LOVE this idea, and I am going to do it! I often feel sorry for myself because I can’t afford the cute things from some of the places you mentioned. Your mind set is awesome.
Ooh, I also LOVE that gray dress!!! I’m pregnant right now, but maybe I should just get it for after…
By the way, I don’t comment much but I love your site! Keep it up!
I like what I like and don’t focus on the brand name or store. I have a tendency to get bored with clothing quickly, so I don’t like investing in expensive trendier pieces. JCPenney & Kohl’s are two of my favorite stores to shop. They always have great coupons & sales, and I walk away with some super cute stuff for not a lot of money. Even when I occassionally shop pricier stores, I’m always looking for a great sale or discount. Never pay full price!
While I’m certainly one for investing in classic pieces at stores like J. Crew (my poison) and such, I love the “lesser thought of” departments stores to fill in the wardrobe, when I just feel like I want something new, but not to drop $100 or more. Sears has some fantastic pieces… I always ask myself the very same thing. If J. Crew styled this piece, would I like it?
I’m so glad I’m not the only one!
