Okay, here’s the thing about Naomi. She’s not just your average talented, loving, energetic, spirited, lovely girl. What makes me just love her, and this may be hard to explain, but she is my happy version of “Entertainment Tonight.” You know how shows like that are all about ridiculous people doing really stupid things and wearing really trashy clothes? Naomi is the opposite of that. I love to read her blog to see a wonderful girl who’s doing her best to make herself a wonderful life. And doing a darn good job. Plus, the clothes? To die for. She’s got some great taste. We talk about that in the interview, and I was excited to get to know her a little better.

1. Hi Naomi! Your blog is a daily read, we love seeing your energy for life. I think, for me, that reading your blog is such a treat because it resonates with that piece of me that seems to be disappearing with adulthood. How do you keep that vivacity and enthusiasm despite the pressures of life that seem to weigh us down? Is it natural or is it something you put effort into?
“I definitely have to put a lot of effort into staying positive in both my life and my marriage on a daily basis. Sometimes I can be the biggest grouch! But I’ve learned that putting a little effort into admiring or appreciating life and the little things we’re blessed with can go a long way. Life becomes more full and magical! And my grouchy days are less numbered with that perspective!”
2. I love that you and Josh make your marriage your top priority. Your date nights sure look like a lot of fun! What would be your perfect date outfit?
“Thanks! I love getting dressed up and going out for a little date with my man! My perfect date outfit depends on my mood, but it’d definitely include heels and some lipstick.”
3. You have a great mix of current and vintage style. How much of your wardrobe is from thrift stores? Do you have any tricks for making thrift store pieces work? or tips on how to find the gems hidden in thrift stores? It seems like every time I go thrifting, I only manage to find junk.
“You definitely have to sift through a lot of thrifted clothing to find little treasures. Most of the time you have to get creative and think “this will work if I hem this, or safety pin that”. Sometimes thrifted pieces require a little bit of work but for the thrift store price it’s usually worth it. And I love reinventing a sweater or dress with new funky buttons, or by shortening or adding length to something, etc.”
4. With your vintage fashion finds, is your wardrobe kind of like a revolving door? Meaning, do you pick something up if it looks interesting and then if it doesn’t work, no big deal, and you just put it back in the thrift store pipeline? Or are you very discerning with what you do or don’t by? What are you looking for when you go to a thrift shop?, are there pieces you always have your eyes out for, like a certain kind of coat or specific style of a dress?
“For years I’ve tried to go shopping with a specific plan in mind: searching for 1 specific color of a dress or a certain cut of a blouse, etc. But I usually never find what I’m looking for when I shop with that approach. The girls that do have a gift and they are very lucky.
I’ve learned to just browse around and pick up pieces I find interesting that have also have an awesome price tag {I always shop the sale racks}. I know I’ll wear it eventually. Sometimes they’ll sit around for a while {I just pulled out an old sweater I bought 5 years ago for $7 but have never worn and suddenly I can’t seem to take it off!}”
5. Besides vintage stores, what are your favorite places to shop?
“Oh like most ladies, I adore Anthropologie. I have a hard time finding something in there I don’t love. So besides vintage stores and Anthro, I find a lot of great pieces at H&M, Urban Outfitters, Zara, and a few handmade clothing items from Etsy.”

6. What are, for you, your 10 essential wardrobe items, your never-fail, go-to pieces?
“It’s rare you’ll find me in something other than a dress or skirt (I don’t own a single pair of jeans) so my essential wardrobe items are pieces that compliment my dresses or skirts. Colorful tights, heels, a few t-shirts or blouses, simple cardigans, a big belt and handbag are my main essentials. I’ve never had a lot of accessories or jewelry so I like to call wearing a little lipstick accessorizing and I’m done.”
7. Who are your fashion inspirations? Do you often experiment and try a new look?
“I think Zooey Deschanel has excellent taste in fashion. I adore everything that girl puts on.”
8. You and Josh seem pretty footloose and fancy free! You looked fantastic in your pictures from your Dominican Republic trip, do you have any tips for packing so stylishly?
“Thank you! Gosh, I don’t think I packed very well for the DR since the trip was a surprise and I didn’t have a lot of time to get my things together. I actually didn’t know how long we’d be away so I didn’t bring enough clothes! By the last day I was tucking a dress into a skirt to reinvent my look a little and change up my outfit a bit! So thanks for saying that.
I usually always over pack, because I don’t like planning my outfits so far ahead of time. Sometimes I change 2 or 3 times in a day depending on my mood. So I don’t have any tips, I NEED tips! If you ever have any, let me know!”
9. Here at Sensibly Styled, our goal is to promote fun and stylish modesty. What are your thoughts about modesty and what it says about a woman?
“Oh gosh I think modesty says everything. It’s not just about covering up either; I think modesty speaks volumes about a woman’s confidence and how she wants to be perceived and respected by others, let alone herself. There are many modest {and still fashionable} clothing choices out there and I wish more women valued them instead of prancing around in such revealing clothing options endorsed by popular clothing stores or the media and designers.”
10. What’s next for you, Naomi? As blog fans we love seeing your daily adventures. What’s coming up next in life for Taza and her Prince?
“Hopefully more exciting adventures with husband! I’m also styling some fun fashion projects over the next few months and will be teaching dance this fall too!”
Go check out Rockstar Diaries today, and give our girl some love. I’ll be looking forward to seeing more adventures, and more of that gorgeous hair. Seriously, how do her bangs stay so smooth?

Ah, GREAT INTERVIEW! I had never read her blog, but I have now and I love it. And (this is embaressing) I went and bought some bright lipstick. I’m a nerd, but I couldn’t help myself.
Thanks Naomi for letting us interview you! And Zoey Deschanel is totally who I pick too! I am always on the phone with Emily, and will say, oh man, Zoey whatever her last name is, is so freaking cool. Or whatever I’m talking about. I just hate that I don’t know how to say her last name!
Thanks for including me! This was so fun and I really admire what you’re doing here on your site!
