Fashionably Frustrated
We got this email from one of our readers:
Ok, so I used to be a cool LA girl who bought far too expensive clothing and worked out. Flash forward 4 years, a temple wedding, 2 kids (and the weight that comes with them) annnnd an invite to my coolest LA girlfriends Beverly hills wedding in October. Black tie optional AND 3 months postpartum? I could just die! Rule out anything empire waist. I have been subscribing to your blog for several months now and really enjoy it. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thank you,
Katy

Well Katy, I don’t know your exact size but I found a few ideas for you! My suggestion for you is wearing a solid color and play heavily (and strategically) on the accessories! They can glam up an outfit and make you look more present and put together in an instant!
Dress Ideas:
From Left to Right:
Asymmetrical Dress, Gray Shabby Apple, Gray Jen Clothing, Daydreamer Wrap Dress
From Left to Right:
Necklace, Bracelet, Hair Piece, Ring, Stud Earrings

you really do ALWAYS look so perfectly put together and adorable. this is perfect for you! i hope you have fun with it.
looking forward to learning how to be stylish from you, my dear.
Yes! This is an awesome post!!! All those dresses are perfect options, but I especially love the “gray, Jen Clothing” dress. That is perfect!
I have struggled with looking stylish post-partum, and the best accessory I can recommend are belts! I have found that a black, stretchy belt (worn high where your waist is small and usually above where the baby gut is) can do wonders.
Spanx. Seriously – it’s self-esteem in a box.
I had this exact experience! We were invited to a black-tie optional wedding 2 months after I had my baby last year. My solution was to buy a 50′s dress pattern and make a dress from that. The waist fell at my natural waist, which is much higher than most dresses now. Here’s a picture:

Thanks for all the input ladies! totally helpful.
The Gray Shabby Apple dress is my fave- it would flatter any figure. I had to do a reception at 2 1/2 months post partum and I just had to squeeze into something I already had. My advice- splurge and get something you can wear now that you feel GREAT in. And good luck!
