This is a reminder for myself, but I have a feeling that many of you are in the same boat, right along with me. I am a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, and that suits my lifestyle pretty well since I’m a stay at home mom of three boys under the age of three. But sometimes, even I get a little tired/bored of my super-soft Gap tees and comfy jeans. Here’s my solution: Cute knit tops!

It’s not a novel idea, for sure. But there are so many options for knit tops out there, and since they’re basically just a dressed up t-shirt, I can’t resist their soft and stretchy powers. I love ruffles, pleats, cowls, plackets, different sleeve lengths…I never met a knit I didn’t like.

So, this spring I’m going to upgrade my comfy style with some fun knits and switch up my jeans with some cute pants.  Top everything off with some bangles or a necklace, add some cheap and easy sandals and it’s just as comfortable as your favorite sweats and a baggy tee – but a million times cuter.

Can I take a moment to brag?  When I was in college at BYU-I, I had the best roommates ever! Like, seriously, we had SO much fun together. Anyways, two of my roommates were freaking awesome artists. Hilary (linked to her etsy shop), who does graphic design and did the graphics for this site, and Stephanie who is a rad painter. Well, Jane’s first birthday is coming up in March and I wanted her to have something really special, and Stephanie created this for her! This is just the digital version, but she is painting on a 1′ by 2′ canvas. I am so excited! What do you think? What kind of special gift did you give your kids on their first birthdays?

Anyways, if you ever need a great artist for something… these two are great. And you should definitely look them up!

Okay, so here are the pictures finally. However, I HATE the way I look in them (So I am being SO nice posting them… haha)! But of course Ash is super cute!  And can you tell how hard we tried to get a photo with our kids? haha. Jane was already in her pjs at this point, and Baylor just wanted to run around!

So, I thought this year I would make some New Years resolutions in the fashion department.

1. Only buy clothing and accessory items that I absolutely LOVE.

2. Take some risks. (For instance, I bought scarves about 7 months ago and still haven’t worn them. Just because I feel self conscious, I know most people wouldn’t consider that a risk…)

3. Wear everything with confidence. (I wore teal tights to church a couple weeks ago, and knew most people thought I was crazy but I embraced it and loved wearing them!)

4. Don’t buy things just because they are on sale!!! (This goes right along with number one… but this is my husbands biggest pet-peeve… when I buy stuff just because the price is right)

5. Be happy with my body. (Yes, I consider this being a fashion resolution because if you aren’t happy with your body, it’s hard to be happy with what you wear)

Also, it makes my life a little easier… I don’t have to think about what to post! Anyways, I hope you are all doing well this holiday season! My husband gets two weeks off for Christmas, so my life has been awesome. It’s so nice to have him home! I’ll be sad next week when he has to go back to work! But, I am grateful that he has a job, so I won’t be too sad that he has to go to work… Also, I’ve been thinking about some Fashion New Years Resolutions… and I will post those New Years Eve. So, if you’re like me, what you need for the holidays is the perfect piece to add to your wardrobe. Something that works with what you already have. Something that is easy to wear, but looks festive and put together.

And for me… (Natalie) this sweater is just beautiful and perfect for any holiday occasion, or any occasion for that matter. I am so happy with it. The only thing that I wish was a little different… on the DownEast site it says this is 3/4 sleeves, on me… it’s more like 7/8 sleeves, so I would order a size smaller than normal if you want the sleeves to be fitted. But seriously, I think this cardigan is perfect (even if the sleeves are long on me). I wore it to my husbands work party last night, and was glad I did!

Okay, first of all, I have to make one thing clear, THIS IS NOT A MATERNITY DRESS!

When I first saw the ‘Perfect Form Dress’ in the DownEast Basics Catalog I knew I had to have it. I ordered it and took a leap of faith that I could squeeze into it even though I am pregnant. Natalie told me that she thought this was a risky dress to order because of the fabric. She said she thought it looked like it might be clingy and not very flattering for some. I considered what she said but decided try it out anyway, and to my pleasant surprise it fits wonderfully! This dress has a higher waistline and small pleats in the front and back making for a flattering fit for anyone. It falls over all of those areas that many of us don’t want our dresses to ‘cling’ to. I truly believe this dress will be flattering on pretty much all body types… not just the ‘XS’ people out there. (Although it will look fabulous on them too.) I am SO happy with this dress, I would recommend it to anyone!

*As far as sizing goes, one thing I have noticed about DownEast Basics (generally speaking) is that their clothes tend to run a little big. Right now I am wearing a medium in most cases, so I ordered a small and it fit great. Keep that in mind if you decide to place an order! (But don’t be mad at me if I am wrong, you can always do an exchange!)

As you all know, tights and leggings are all the rage right now! We Love Colors has 51 Solid Color opaque tights, along with many more textured and colorful tights. I have two pairs of these tights in teal and charcoal gray, and I LOVE them! Seriously, I wouldn’t say I’m an expert at tights, however, I have never worn such quality tights in my life. A month ago I bought some black textured tights at Kohls for $10… and after only wearing them once they looked like they were going to run… so every time I wear them I fear there will be a huge run in them at the end of the day. However, the tights I have from We Love Colors are super thick and high quality (=love)! You must try them!

First off let me tell you how much I love your blog!  I look at it daily for outfit ideas and good deals!  Love it!  I am in sort of a fashion dilemma.  After 5 hours at the mall today, I ended up with nothing to show for it.  My family is taking Christmas pictures in a  week and a half and my mother wants it to be brown tones, or anything that matches brown (gold, cream, burnt red etc.)  I kind of want to wear a fun skirt that is higher waisted but I can’t find any that come to the knee!  Or a cute dress or SOMETHING!  I am getting stressed!  So I am asking the style guru for help!  Any ideas?

Hi Carly!  Sometimes a specific color palette can be helpful for family pictures and events, but then again…sometimes it feels like when you’re shopping for something specific that you find anything and everything besides the one thing you’re looking for.  Know what I mean?  I hope this outfit helps you!

This highwaisted skirt is 24.5 inches long, so it should come to your knee or just below. For the top, there are a few options here (patterned top, brown top, either would be cute tucked into the skirt), but my favorite is the belted jacket (of course you’ll need a top/camisole underneath, try this cute lacy one). I love how this brown top looks with the skirt. Put it all together with a cute pair of heels and add a gold necklace and you’re set.

Shopping tip:
Sometimes, when you’re shopping online, you can search for items by color.  These tops are from Charlotte Russe and I searched for only brown tops.  Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft also allow you to search by color.  Many online shoe stores also have that feature.  So, if you’re looking for something specific, maybe you’ll be able to save some time by starting with sites that allow you to search by color.
